MASRINA ABDULLAH
Masrina Abdullah, an architect turned batik designer, studied architecture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 1983 to 1988. During her studies, she spent summers exploring art, fashion boutiques, galleries, and museums, developing a deep passion for the arts.
After returning to Malaysia, she taught herself batik design and launched her brand Ilham...Malaysia in 1990, focusing on batik fashion accessories for tourists. That same year, she created her signature Double Layer Technique, inspired by childhood memories of dust floating in sunlight.
Masrina co-founded Ilham Cipta Handicraft (1996–2010), producing batik fabrics, uniforms, and fashion items. In 2003, she won the first Piala Seri Endon award, a prestigious Malaysian batik competition. She has also designed corporate uniforms, gifts, and furnishings for companies, government agencies, and hotels across Malaysia.
Over the years, she has received multiple national and international awards and showcased her work in many exhibitions. In 2005, she collaborated with Italian designer Roberta di Camerino at Milan Fashion Week, and in 2006, her work received the UNESCO-AHPADA Seal of Excellence.
Today, Masrina continues her batik journey through MASRINA ABDULLAH EMPIRE VENTURES, producing and consulting under the label Masterpiece By Masrina Abdullah.

Creative, passionate, and deeply rooted in tradition, Mayamin Azlan brings a fresh and vibrant energy to the world of batik. With a background in graphic design and a childhood immersed in the artistry of batik, Mayamin naturally blends modern aesthetics with cultural heritage. Growing up under the guidance of her mother, acclaimed batik designer Masrina Abdullah, she developed not just the skills, but the soul of the craft.
Today, Mayamin is carving out her own creative path. Her unique collection of art pieces combines batik with mediums like oil and acrylic—bridging the classic with the contemporary in striking new ways. Her design eye also plays a key role in enhancing the brand’s artistic presentation, helping elevate the company’s image as it grows into new markets.
As the creative lead, she is at the forefront of expanding the brand’s presence both locally and internationally. She has been invited as a guest designer to a prestigious fashion show in Indonesia and has proudly represented the brand-Masterpiece By Masrina Abdullah across several countries—sharing her story, her art, and her passion with the world.
